Hypnosis

Hypnosis is often misunderstood. Hypnosis is not mind control:

The person under hypnosis will NOT do whatever that is not within his/her will.

Therefore people do not get conned of their money or any other valuables via hypnosis.

Hypnosis is not unconscious. He/she is as alert as when he/she is not in hypnosis.

The person under hypnosis is aware of the surroundings including physical sensations, sounds and smell.

Hypnosis is also not sleep, as in the sleep we rest our body at bed time.

Hypnosis is focus of attention, bypass the critical factor in the mind, thus increasing the suggestibility.

For instance, when you are watching a movie, you are aware of the surroundings (the movements of audience, sounds, sensations),

but you choose not to bother with them as you are enjoying the movie.

However, if there is an emergency like fire break out, you will be able to respond accordingly.

In this case, you are hypnotised by the movie.

Hypnotherapy VS Hypnosis

Many people still have confusion between hypnosis and hypnotherapy, and between hypnotist and hypnotherapist.

Hypnosis is the state of heightened suggestibility. Hypnotherapy is the work done to improve the person's health and well-being

through the state of hypnosis. There are many different techniques used in hypnotherapy.

What is the difference between a hypnotist and a hypnotherapist? A hypnotist is someone who induces a person into hypnosis.

A hypnotherapist is one who induces a person into hypnosis, and gives positive suggestions

and does therapy work (usually customised) to

dissolve the root of an issue of the individual.

Who Can Be Hypnotised?

Anyone with normal intelligence can be hypnotised. Some people may take a longer time than the others.

Have you tried driving on a highway and missed your exit?

What about getting honked by the vehicles when you were having your long run and crossed the road without noticing the traffic signals?

You were hypnotised.

Hypnosis can also be defined as focus of attention. In the case of a hypnotherapy session,

the client focuses his or her attention on the sound of the hypnotherapist's voice.

Generally, from age 6 onwards, hypnotherapy work can be done.
It also depends on the maturity of the child.

An old man or woman with normal intelligence and mentally healthy can also be hypnotised.

Myths About Hypnosis

Despite the benefits of hypnotherapy, many people are still skeptical about it.

Many people know hypnosis as a con art, where the hypnotherapist is able to cheat another person of his or her belongings.

The person being hypnotised is being mind-controlled by the hypnotherapist.

In fact, the hypnotherapist is unable to have the client to do things not congruent with his or her values.

The client is completely willing to accept what is suggested to him or her.

Being in hypnosis is not sleep. Although hypnosis can be attached to sleep (hypnotherapy work done on a sleeping client),

there is a difference between sleep and hypnosis.

Research has shown that the brain frequency of a person in hypnosis and sleep is indeed different.

Usually during a hypnotherapy session, the client is as conscious as he/she is not in hypnosis.

The client is able to hear, smell and feel the surrounding as it is.
